One rainy afternoon last week, with nothing much to do in this lockdown, I longed to hear those Spanish/Latino songs we used to listen to when we were growing up. So I went to YouTube and searched those familiar Spanish songs like Besame Mucho, Historia de Un Amor, Cucurucucu Paloma, Reloj, and many more. After listening to the vocals, I decided it was time for instrumentals.
I searched for piano selections of Spanish music and came up with a Cuban-American pianist with an album titled Nostalgias de Mexico Las Mejores Canciones (meaning, Best Nostalgic Mexican Songs, I think).
The title suggested that these may be songs I know, or at least familiar with. It was a more than an hour long album, so I sat back, relaxed and closed my eyes and imbibed on the nostalgia the piano pieces brought. Some songs were familair, some were not. But one song made me sit up and listen closely as the melody unfolded.
Listen to this:
Although I was sure I heard that song before, I just can't exactly recall where. I searched for my favorite western/country Tejano (Texan-Mexican) band and there it was.
The song is entitled Echame a mi la Culpa, which simply means, put the blame on me. I seached some more about the song and the results show more than twenty Latino singers have a version of the song, foremost of which is Julio Iglesias.
But below, I posted a version by Luis Miguel, a popular Mexican singer. This is more bouncy and there are the original Spanish lyrics and the English translation. If you want to sing along, at least you would know what the song is about.
I don't know how to read notes, but I'm posting here a sort of karaoke version, for piano or harmonica.
I like this song. I hope you do too. More Spanish songs are just a Google or YouTube search away.
