The Firestarter movies tell the story of Charlie McGee, a young girl with the terrifying ability to control fire with her mind (pyrokinesis).
FIRESTARTER (1984)
Charlie's parents, Andy and Vicky, gained psychic abilities after participating in a government experiment. Charlie inherited these powers, but her pyrokinesis is volatile and uncontrollable. A shadowy government agency, "The Shop," seeks to capture Charlie to weaponize her powers. Andy must protect his daughter while teaching her to control her abilities, leading to a deadly confrontation with The Shop's agents.
FIRESTARTER (2022)
This reimagining focuses on Charlie's struggle to understand and control her powers as she enters adolescence. The Shop, led by the ruthless Captain Hollister, remains determined to exploit Charlie's abilities. As Charlie's powers grow stronger, she must confront her past, her fears, and the dangers that come with her extraordinary gift.
Both films explore themes of government control, the dangers of unchecked power, and the challenges of living with a unique and potentially destructive ability.
