1 LONELY HEARTS

Raymond Martinez Fernandez and Martha Jule Beck were an American serial killer couple. They were convicted of one murder, are known to have committed two more, and were suspected of having killed up to twenty victims during a spree between 1947 and 1949.

After their arrest and trial for serial murder in 1949, Fernandez and Beck became known as the Lonely Hearts Killers for meeting their unsuspecting victims through personal ads, posted in newspaper lonely hearts columns. They were found guilty and sentenced to die in the electric chair. They were executed on March 8, 1951.

2 ZODIAC

The Zodiac Killer is the pseudonym of an unidentified serial killer who operated in the San Francisco Bay Area between December 1968 and October 1969. The Zodiac's known attacks took place in Benicia, Vallejo, unincorporated Napa County, and the city of San Francisco.

Five of his known wounded victims died, and two survived. He coined his name in a series of taunting messages that he mailed to regional newspapers, in which he threatened killing sprees and bombings if they were not printed.The case has been described as "arguably the most famous unsolved murder case in American history".

3 ALL GOOD THINGS

Robert Alan Durst was an American real estate heir and murderer. The eldest son of New York City real estate magnate Seymour Durst, he garnered attention as a suspect in the unsolved 1982 disappearance of his first wife, Kathleen McCormack; the 2000 murder of his longtime friend, Susan Berman; and the 2001 killing of his neighbor, Morris Black.

Acquitted of murdering Black in 2003, Durst did not face further legal action until his participation in the 2015 documentary miniseries The Jinx led to his being charged with Berman's murder. Durst was convicted in 2021 and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

4 FROZEN GROUND

Robert Hansen was a notorious American serial killer who operated from Anchorage, Alaska. Active from the years 1972 and 1983, Hansen reportedly kidnapped, raped, and murdered at least seventeen women.

Authorities finally arrested him in 1983 after he abducted a teenage sex worker named Cindy Paulson. He pleaded guilty to four murders, however, the Anchorage Daily News reported that he admitted to killing 17 women. In February 1984, the court sentenced him to 461 years in prison plus life without parole. Even though he agreed to help investigators recover the bodies of his victims, only 12 of them were found.

5 THE GOOD NURSE

The year 2003 ended on a very unusual note for Americans as they were about to see one of the deadliest criminals in the history of the country. Charles Cullen, an ICU nurse at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, was brought in for one first-degree murder and one attempted murder on December 12, 2003.

Cullen, who later came to be known as the ‘Angel of Death’, was arrested after killing 13 patients in less than a year. He pleaded guilty to killing 29 patients and the attempted murder of six more. In 2006, he was sentenced to 18 consecutive life terms. He claimed that he committed his crimes to ease the suffering of his patients.

6 AMERICAN MURDERER

Jason Derek Brown is an American fugitive wanted for first degree murder and armed robbery in Phoenix, Arizona. On November 29, 2004, Brown allegedly shot and killed Robert Keith Palomares, a 24-year-old armored car guard outside a movie theater and then fled with the money.

On January 16, 2005, authorities discovered his abandoned Cadillac left in a long-term parking lot at the Portland International Airport but he wasn't found. On December 8, 2007, he was named by the FBI as the 489th fugitive to be placed on its Ten Most Wanted list. He was removed from the list without being captured, but he is still wanted.
