The Joy Luck Club is about four Chinese mothers, who came to America when they were young, and their grown daughters who were born in the United States.

The mothers formed a club, where they play the Chinese tile game of mahjong, eat a lot of food, and talk about life.

Their stories of their youth in China are both sad and magical. The moms are filled with old-fashioned wisdom, while their daughters' lives are more modern and involve complications their mothers never dreamed of.

Because they have different ways of looking at the world, the mothers and daughters often don't see eye-to-eye, but there is a strong bond between them. Told from different points of view, the wisdom in this movie plays out in stories of love, hope, desire, and loss.

Sound of Freedom (2023) - Movie

"Sound of Freedom,” the movie of the moment, has a message first, and a story second. Its message is to get us to care more about the horrors of child sex trafficking. It does that by showing queasy sequences of kids in danger, being carted around by slimy adults, and making us remember everyone’s faces.

Then it gives us a weary hero, Tim Ballard, an American man whose superpower is that he cares. This father and husband cares so much that he leaves his job at Homeland Security ten months before earning a pension. Instead of only catching pedophiles, as he has done nearly 300 times before, he goes to Colombia and undercover to help rescue children.

This man is played by a gentle and gravely serious Jim Caviezel, who shoulders this message’s suffering just like when he played Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.”

The movie Troy is based on an adaptation of Homer's great epic The Iliad. This movie re-enacts the legend of the Trojan War in 1193 B.C. Paris, the young prince of Troy, eloped with Helen, the Queen of Sparta, after a mission to sign a peace treaty with Menelaus, the King, with the elder Trojan prince Hector.

This angered Menelaus, and he appealed to his elder brother, the Greek High King Agamemnon to lead their troops to Troy. Agamemnon used his brother's reason to attack Troy, but he had other plans. His main motive was, of course, to conquer Troy, the biggest threat to his vast empire.

To acquire larger odds of winning the war, Agamemnon implored Achilles (Brad Pitt), who was known as the greatest warrior in his time. He agreed, for he was after the glory, where his name and achievements would be recorded down in history for the world to remember him as the greatest warrior in the existing world.
